FAQ

How do I know what benefits I am eligible for?

On the homepage, there is a "What Are My Benefits?" tool that will help you understand what benefits you may be eligible for. Contact us to learn more about the available benefits, whether you qualify and how you can apply.

Is the Texas Veterans Commission the same as the VA?

No. The Texas Veterans Commission is the state advocate for Texas veterans, their families and survivor. The Texas Veterans Commission staff and Veterans County Service Officers assist with filing claims for VA compensation, pensions, educational assistance, home loans, insurance, and other benefits.

Who can I contact for more information?

Visit our contact page to locate the Claims, Education and Employment offices closest to you. You may also call the Veterans Hotline at 1-800-252-VETS (8387).

How can I get my DD214?

Military personnel records can be used for proving military service, or as a valuable tool in genealogical research. Most veterans and their next-of-kin can obtain free copies of their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) and other military and medical records several ways: through the National Archives eVetRecs online service or by filling out and mailing or faxing Standard Form SF-180, which can be found here.
