State Cemeteries
What is it?
Texas operates state cemeteries for veterans and their eligible dependents in the cities of Abilene, Killeen and Mission. A future site has been selected in Corpus Christi.
Who qualifies?
The eligibility requirements are the same as for VA National Cemeteries.
- Veterans and members of armed forces,
- Certain Members of Reserve Components & Reserve Officer Training Corps,
- Commissioned Officers of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and Public Health Services
- World War II Merchant Marines,
- Philippine Armed Forces,
- Spouses and Dependents (however, burial of dependent children is limited to unmarried children under 21 years old or 23 years old if a full-time student at an approved educational institution.)
How to get it?
Burial plots may not be reserved. However, the Texas Veterans Land Board will provide an opportunity to pre-register or verify eligibility in advance of need and will keep that information on file. After a cemetery opens, contact the Cemetery Director and request information on how to pre-register.
