State Cemeteries

What is it?

Texas operates state cemeteries for veterans and their eligible dependents in the cities of Abilene, Killeen and Mission. A future site has been selected in Corpus Christi.

Who qualifies?

The eligibility requirements are the same as for VA National Cemeteries.

  • Veterans and members of armed forces,
  • Certain Members of Reserve Components & Reserve Officer Training Corps,
  • Commissioned Officers of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and Public Health Services
  • World War II Merchant Marines,
  • Philippine Armed Forces,
  • Spouses and Dependents (however, burial of dependent children is limited to unmarried children under 21 years old or 23 years old if a full-time student at an approved educational institution.)

How to get it?

Burial plots may not be reserved. However, the Texas Veterans Land Board will provide an opportunity to pre-register or verify eligibility in advance of need and will keep that information on file. After a cemetery opens, contact the Cemetery Director and request information on how to pre-register.  Visit the Texas Veterans Land Board website to learn more: http://www.glo.texas.gov/vlb/veterans-benefits/veterans-cemeteries/index.html
